KARACHI: Karachi Kings all-rounder Salman Ali Agha has hinted that he could step away from T20 internationals to better manage his workload and focus on preparations for the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2027.
Speaking at a media briefing, Agha reflected on his recent performances in both the Pakistan Super League and international cricket, admitting he is reassessing his long-term plans. The right-handed batter said he is carefully weighing his commitments across formats, aiming to be at his best for major global tournaments. He said that changes to his T20 schedule remain a possibility if it helps improve his overall performance.
“There is a lot of concern. I keep thinking my World Cup is not going well and my PSL is also not going well. The World Cup 2027 is still far away. We don’t even have T20s this year; there are no T20s till December,” Agha said.
He added that once the PSL ends, his attention will likely shift towards ODIs and Test cricket, while leaving open the option of taking a break from T20Is if needed.
“After this PSL, the focus will obviously be on ODIs and Test matches. If I feel that for the World Cup 2027 I should take a break from T20s for preparation, or if I don’t want to focus on that, then I will definitely do it,” he said.
Agha emphasised the importance of the 50-over World Cup in his career, saying he is ready to make whatever adjustments are required to perform at the highest level. “The 50-over World Cup is always very special for any player, and it will be special for me as well. If I have to do anything, I will do it to perform well,” he added.
The 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in October and November. The tournament will include 14 teams, with 44 matches scheduled in South Africa and 10 in Zimbabwe and Namibia, while Australia will defend their title.
