ISLAMABAD: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has crossed a major production milestone, exceeding 40,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) for the first time in more than six and a half years, according to an official statement released on Friday.

The announcement was made by Managing Director and CEO Ahmed Hayat Lak, who described the achievement as a “testament to resilience, technical excellence and unwavering commitment” across the organisation.

The development comes after years of declining output from OGDC’s mature oil fields. Company officials said sustained technical interventions, improved reservoir management and stronger coordination between operational and support teams played a central role in reversing the downward trend.

Energy analysts view the milestone as a positive signal for Pakistan’s oil and gas sector, which has struggled to maintain production levels amid aging infrastructure and limited new discoveries. Increased domestic output could help marginally reduce dependence on imported crude, easing pressure on the country’s external account.

OGDC noted that the achievement reflects a broader organisational shift towards efficiency and performance-driven operations. The company has been working to position itself as a more agile and commercially focused entity, with emphasis on timely decision-making and value creation.

“This milestone is not the destination but a foundation for greater accomplishments ahead,” Lak said, reiterating management’s commitment to supporting teams in achieving higher operational targets.
