LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar has announced a groundbreaking initiative under which the Punjab Sports Department will organise mega sports events every month, in line with the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz. The announcement was made during a press conference at the National Hockey Stadium, attended by senior officials including Secretary Sports Punjab Muhammad Ali, DG Sports Punjab Muhammad Tariq Qureshi, and SBP Vice-Chairman Suleman Malik.
The minister revealed that the CM Punjab Inter-School Swimming Championship will be held on April 15–16 at the Nishtar Park Sports Complex, featuring over 400 male and female students. The championship will include 80 events for girls and 30 for boys, with cash prizes worth Rs 10 lakh, medals, and trophies for winners. Traditional competitions such as Rustam-e-Punjab and Rustam-e-Pakistan will also be staged.
On April 19, the CM Punjab National Marathon and Cycling Championship will take place, with more than 7,000 participants registered. The 21-km marathon will begin at Liberty Chowk at 6:00 am, alongside a 1-km wheelchair race for special persons, a 5-km race for female athletes, and a 2-km fun race for families. Prizes worth Rs 40 lakh will be distributed.
