The England Football team will kick off their World Cup journey against Croatia, a team that shattered their chances of bringing the title home back in 2018 in Russia in the tournament’s semi-finals. This epic fixture from Group L takes place on Thursday (tomorrow). The stage for this drama is the Dallas Stadium, famously known as AT&T Stadium, in Arlington, Texas. The match will be officiated by French referee Clément Turpin, who has previously officiated at massive occasions like the Champions League finals.
With a spectacular seating capacity of over 80,000 fans and one of the largest high-definition video boards on the planet, the Dallas stadium is the perfect venue for a game of this magnitude. Crucially, its climate-controlled environment means the players will be protected from the intense Texas summer heat, keeping the temperatures down.
Both teams bring with them a rich history of the game, with big names in their squad. While the three lions are going with a perfectly fit squad, the team selected for the tournament by Thomas Tuchel surprisingly leaves out some big names like Real Madrid’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, and Manchester City’s Phil Foden.
Even without some of their superstars, England’s attack looks incredibly dangerous with the likes of Kane, Saka, Gordon, Eze and Morgan. Their captain, Harry Kane, arrives in North America having scored 55 goals for Bayern Munich across all competitions this season. The striker is in the form of his life and England are hoping to come back strong after they lost the Euro 2024 to Spain. A massive amount of attention will be firmly fixed on the electric Anthony Gordon. The winger is under the spotlight right now, especially since Spanish giants Barcelona just signed him in a blockbuster transfer. For Newcastle, his form has been nothing short of exceptional, helping the team both in attack and in defence.
For Croatia, there is good news as Joško Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic have successfully recovered from their recent injuries and are fully fit to play in this massive opener. Additionally, the rhythm of the game still runs through their legendary maestro, Luka Modrić, who is a Ballon D’Or winner and playing his fifth FIFA World Cup at 40 years old, making him the oldest player in the Croatian squad. He is expected to retire after this tournament. His stint at AC Milan was short, but he could not help the Italian side secure a Champions League qualification.
