KARACHI: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has directed authorities to prepare a feasibility plan for a ferry service between Karachi and Iraq to facilitate pilgrims, while calling for intensified action against smuggling and drug trafficking.
The directive came during his visit to the Pakistan Coast Guards headquarters, where he chaired a meeting on operational readiness and training.Officials told the meeting that more than 14,000 kilogrammes of narcotics, valued at over Rs8 billion, had been seized over the past year.
Naqvi urged authorities to step up efforts against trafficking networks, emphasising the need for sustained enforcement.He said the Coast Guards play a key role in maintaining security on land and at sea, including during emergencies, and assured continued government support to strengthen the force.The minister also reviewed progress on the Pasni Safe City Project during the visit.
