Rangers arrest three suspects for over 300 street crimes

The Sindh Rangers on Saturday claimed to have arrested three members of the Tango gang during an intelligence-based operation in the Pathan Colony area for their involvement in multiple robbery and street crime incidents.

The arrested suspects were identified as Muzammil Shah, Saber Rehman and Karimullah, alias Lala. Officials of the paramilitary force also seized three phones and cash from the suspects.

According to a Rangers spokesperson, the suspects were involved in numerous incidents of snatching phones, motorbikes and cash at gunpoint across various areas of Karachi, including Baldia Town, Orangi Town, SITE Area, Ittehad Town and Manghopir.

The gang is believed to have looted between 300 and 400 phones in separate incidents. During the initial interrogation, Karimullah admitted to snatching around 30 phones during Ramazan alone.

The spokesperson said Shah is a key member of the gang and had also been involved in injuring a police officer during an encounter near the Bhatti Park, an incident captured on CCTV camera, while Rehman had allegedly been involved in the buying and selling of snatched phones.

Officials said that two of their accomplices are already in jail, while raids are under way to arrest other gang members. Multiple FIRs are registered against the arrested suspects at different police stations. The suspects, along with the recovered items, have been handed over to police for further legal action.

The Rangers have urged residents to report criminal activities by contacting nearby Rangers checkpoints, their helpline at 1101 or their WhatsApp number, making the assurance that their identities would be kept confidential.

A few days ago the Rangers had arrested two suspects belonging to the Raju gang during an intelligence-based operation in the 89 Morr area of Quaidabad.

The arrested suspects were identified as Shah Mir Rashid, alias Mir, son of Abdul Rasheed, and Mohammad Owais, son of Ghareeb Nawaz. Weapons and other items, including a licensed 9mm pistol, a magazine, 13 rounds, two phones and cash, were recovered from their possession.

According to officials, the suspects, along with their accomplices, were involved in multiple incidents of robbery, street crime and motorbike snatching in areas including Shah Latif Town, Sherpao Colony and Quaidabad, and their adjoining localities.

During interrogation, the suspects admitted to looting over Rs5 million in various robberies. They also revealed that stolen phones and motorbikes were sold at low prices. The suspects further disclosed that other members of the gang are also involved in the sale and purchase of narcotics in the area.

Police records show that multiple FIRs were already registered against Rashid at different police stations. Rangers officials said that raids were under way to arrest other members of the gang. The arrested suspects, along with the recovered weapons and other items, have been handed over to police for further legal proceedings.
