NEW YORK: US forces are continuing to deploy to the Middle East for potential operations as American and Iranian teams prepare for negotiations in Pakistan today (Saturday), reports The Wall Street Journal on Friday.

Citing flight-tracking data and a US official, the journal reported jet fighters and attack planes recently arrived in the Middle East. Additionally, 1,500 to 2,000 troops from the Army’s elite 82nd Airborne Division could arrive in the coming days, the official was reported as saying.

Thousands of sailors and Marines are also making their way to the region. The aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush and its accompanying warships deployed to the Middle East from Virginia at the end of March and are in the Atlantic, according to a Navy official. The USS Boxer and its accompanying warships, carrying the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, deployed from California in mid-March and are in the Pacific, according to another Navy official. The ships likely will take more than a week to reach the region.
