PESHAWAR: Intermittent rain that began Monday night in the provincial capital disrupted routine life, exposing the poor drainage system across the city.
Rainwater accumulated on roads, creating pond-like conditions in several areas. Waterlogging on major roads and in markets not only badly affected the flow of traffic but also caused serious difficulties for commuters.
Meanwhile, streams and drains in suburban areas experienced a surge in water levels due to continuous rainfall.
As a result of the ongoing rain, several low-lying areas of the city were submerged. In Budhni Nala, the flood-like situation led to water entering houses in Sardar Garhi, where rescue personnel shifted many residents to safer places. The rainfall also exposed drainage issues in posh localities. Several phases of Hayatabad witnessed water accumulated on roads, while similar reports were received from Regi Model Town.
Continuous rain also disrupted electricity supply in various parts of the city, as multiple feeders tripped, leading to power outages. According to the Meteorological Department, the current spell of rain is expected to continue intermittently for the next one to two days.
