JAMRUD: The future of 66 medical students from Khyber district hangs in the balance as they have not been allowed to return to Afghanistan to resume their studies.

President of the Khyber Students Association, Alam Zeb Afridi, has urged the government to grant special permission to these students to cross the Torkham border and continue their education.

Talking to the media, he said the government should hold talks with the Taliban authorities to find a solution so that the students do not lose valuable time.Alam Zeb Afridi added that despite informing Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi about the issue, no action has been taken so far, which was lamentable.

He appealed to the chief minister to arrange air travel for the students so they can continue their studies without further delay.According to him, a delegation of the Khyber Students Association also approached the Peshawar commissioner and other relevant authorities but received no relief, adding the federal government appears to be silent on the issue.

The association chief noted that although the students were earlier allowed to enter Pakistan from Afghanistan on special permits, they are now not being permitted to return via the Torkham border, disrupting their education. He urged the government to take immediate steps on humanitarian grounds and resolve this serious issue faced by the students.
