LAHORE: Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has extended heartfelt greetings, best wishes and prayers to the Christian community on the occasion of Easter.
She said the government and people of Punjab equally share in happiness of Christian community, describing them as peaceful and highly respected citizens of Pakistan.
Maryam Nawaz acknowledged valuable contributions of Christian community to the creation and development of Pakistan, emphasising their patriotism and commitment to the country are beyond doubt. She also recalled the vision of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who advocated equality for all citizens regardless of religion or ethnicity, and urged the message of love, harmony and unity be promoted on Easter.
Highlighting government initiatives, she said grants for minority communities in Punjab have been increased and development funds have been allocated for their welfare. For the first time, a Minority Card has been introduced to provide quarterly financial assistance, under which more than 100,000 deserving minority families are receiving Rs10,500 every three months.
Maryam Nawaz reaffirmed government’s commitment to inclusive development and well-being of all communities across the province.
Meanwhile, CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, in her message on the International Day of Conscience, said this day reminds us to renew our commitment to values of love, peace and tolerance.
She stressed survival of humanity depends on keeping conscience of people around the world alive. She added for ending wars and establishing lasting peace, every nation must listen to the voice of its conscience.
She noted observance of this day by the United Nations encourages reflection and reinforces commitment to universal principles of fundamental freedoms and human rights. She further said compassion must remain an essential part of human conscience to ensure collective welfare.
Referring to the 2026 theme, “Conscious Decisions for a Better Future”, she emphasised importance of thoughtful and responsible choices. She also pointed out that the issue of Jammu and Kashmir has been appealing to the conscience of the world for more than seven decades, while the suffering of people in Gaza Strip serves as a moment of reflection for the global community.
Maryam Nawaz concluded that preserving the sense of conscience alongside human needs is essential for true humanity.
