ISLAMABAD: A high-level delegation from the Constitutional Court of Republic of Turkiye is scheduled to visit Pakistan from April 6 to 9. The delegation will be led by Kadir Ozkaya, President of the Constitutional Court of Türkiye, and include esteemed judges and senior officials.
During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for judicial cooperation between Pakistan and Turkey will be signed at the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The MoU will establish a comprehensive framework for judicial exchanges, capacity building and the sharing of best practices in adjudication. This initiative highlights the commitment of both countries to strengthen constitutional governance, uphold the rule of law and safeguard judicial independence, while fostering institutional linkages between their higher courts.
Key areas of cooperation under the MoU will include professional training for the district judiciary, joint training programs, academic exchanges and opportunities to learn from judicial systems of other countries. Additionally, the agreement will promote the use of modern technology in the judicial system to make justice delivery more transparent, efficient, and accessible. A joint working group will also be established to oversee the implementation of the agreed measures.
During their stay, the Turkish delegation will hold high-level meetings and consultations with key stakeholders in Pakistan’s judicial sector. Discussions will cover challenges facing the judicial system, administrative issuesand potential reforms. The delegation will also visit historical sites, including Taxila and inner-city Lahore, to gain insights into Pakistan’s cultural heritage.
The MoU signing ceremony at the Supreme Court of Pakistan will be broadcast live. Participants will include Supreme Court judges, chief justices of high courts, the federal minister for law and justice, attorney general of Pakistan, secretaries, district judiciary judges and representatives of the legal community.
This visit aligns with the broader vision of the Supreme Court of Pakistan to promote a modern, efficient, and citizen-friendly justice system. The initiative aims to restore public confidence, enhance access to justice and align judicial practices with international standards.
