LAHORE: The clash between Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators at the Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday (today) is shaping up to be one of the more intriguing fixtures of PSL 11. Both sides enter the contest with mixed form, and the rain-affected conditions at Gaddafi Stadium here add another layer of unpredictability.

Multan Sultans are slight favourites, holding a 53.9% win probability compared to Quetta’s 46.1%. Their strength lies in a powerful top order led by Sahibzada Farhan, who has been in scintillating form since the T20 World Cup, and supported by Steve Smith and Josh Philippe. Multan’s ability to chase under lights has been a defining feature of their campaign, with dew often tilting conditions in their favour. However, their middle order remains relatively untested when batting first, which could be a vulnerability if Quetta win the toss and force them to set a target.

Quetta Gladiators, meanwhile, have shown flashes of brilliance but remain inconsistent. Their reliance on spin, particularly Abrar Ahmed, has been a double-edged sword. On dry surfaces, Abrar has been a match-winner, but under lights with heavy dew, his grip and effectiveness diminish. Quetta’s batting has leaned heavily on youngsters Shamyl Hussain and Hasan Nawaz, both of whom have produced consecutive fifties and look increasingly reliable. Veteran Rilee Rossouw, despite his reputation, has struggled to convert starts into big scores this season, leaving Quetta dependent on their emerging talents.

The venue itself plays a crucial role. The Gaddafi Stadium has produced an average first-innings score of 178 runs in PSL 2026, with chasing teams enjoying a slight edge. The short square boundaries and skiddy surface reward aggressive strokeplay, especially for left-handers targeting midwicket. Dew after 8:30 PM makes defending totals extremely difficult, as bowlers lose grip and fielding sides struggle with wet balls. This factor strongly favours Multan, who have already chased down a record 226 at this ground earlier in the season.

Head-to-head history leans towards Multan, with 9 wins in 16 meetings, but Quetta won both encounters in 2025, including a stunning 10-wicket victory. That recent dominance suggests they have found tactical answers against Multan, though the current Sultans squad is largely restructured under Ashton Turner’s leadership and new administration.

In terms of probable line-ups, Multan are expected to stick with their successful XI featuring Farhan, Smith, Philippe, Masood, Turner, and a pace-heavy attack led by Peter Siddle and Mohammad Wasim Jr. Quetta will likely retain the side that faced Islamabad United, with Saud Shakeel anchoring the batting and Abrar Ahmed leading the spin department.

Ultimately, the contest may hinge on two key battles: Farhan vs Abrar Ahmed in the middle overs, and Quetta’s young batters against Multan’s death bowling duo of Wasim Jr and Shehzad Gul. If Farhan fires in the powerplay, Multan’s win probability rises significantly. Conversely, if Abrar can remove him and Smith early, Quetta’s chances improve dramatically.

Multan Sultans lost to Lahore Qalandars by 20 runs on April 3, struggling to chase 186. Previously recorded a record chase of 226 against Hyderabad Kingsmen. Quetta Gladiators lost to Islamabad United by 8 wickets on April 2. Their only win came against Hyderabad Kingsmen, restricting them to 134.

However, Multan Sultans remain slight favourites due to their chasing record and top-order depth, but Quetta Gladiators’ recent head-to-head success and the form of their young batters mean this fixture is far from straightforward. Expect a high-scoring battle where dew, discipline, and power-hitting will decide the outcome.
