LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed the departure of Abdullah Khurram Niazi, who stepped down as Director of Domestic Cricket after serving for nearly two years.
Niazi, a Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS) officer on deputation, concluded his tenure on Sunday and is set to return to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) in Islamabad, where sources suggest he may be appointed as Member Environment.
In his farewell message to domestic coaches, Niazi expressed gratitude for their collaboration and praised their role as the backbone of Pakistan’s cricketing structure.
“It has been a profound honor to work alongside all of you over the last two years. Together, we have strived to elevate the standard of cricket across Pakistan. I truly admire the dedication, commitment, and passion you have demonstrated at every level.”
He also offered a note of humility, apologizing for any unintentional grievances during his leadership, and emphasized leaving on a foundation of mutual respect.
As his deputation ends, Niazi has been directed to report back to the Punjab government/Establishment Division. His next assignment is expected to be with the CDA, marking a return to his original cadre after his stint in cricket administration.
With Niazi’s departure, speculation has already begun regarding his successor. Reports suggest that former Pakistan captain Younis Khan could be a candidate for the role of Director of Domestic Cricket. His potential appointment would signal a shift towards involving former players more directly in administrative reforms.
