LAHORE: Lahore Qalandars all-rounder Arafat Minhas agreed that the decision to field more spinners than the pacers backfired and it was a great escape.

After Multan Sultans’ 20 run loss to Lahore Qalandars in a rain shortened PSL 11 clash, all rounder Arafat Minhas spoke candidly in his post match press conference. He acknowledged tactical missteps, the challenges of adapting to wet conditions, and his own determination to grow as a player.

Minhas admitted that the team’s decision to field three spinners on a rain affected surface backfired.

“If we had conceded fewer extras and improved our fielding slightly, we could have won this match. The conditions were difficult because of the rain; the pitch offered very little help to the spinners. We played three spinners while they only played one, which made a difference.”

He emphasized that while Multan’s batting was strong, the bowling unit struggled to adapt to conditions that favored pace over spin.

Asked about the mindset in a 13 over contest, Minhas explained the mental challenge of switching gears quickly.

focused because play can resume at any moment. That’s exactly what happened—the rain stopped suddenly, and we had to warm up and get ready immediately. In such situations, everything happens very fast, so you have to be proactive. The key is to remain as calm as possible in that environment.”

His comments highlighted the importance of mental strength in unpredictable conditions.

Responding to criticism of the bowling unit, Minhas defended his teammates while acknowledging the difficulty of the surface.

“No bowler intentionally bowls to a batter’s strong zone. However, you have to understand that the conditions were very tough today. If you look at all the spinners who bowled, everyone struggled because the surface wasn’t favoring them after the rain. As professionals, we can’t just blame the conditions, but it was a factor.”

He stressed the need for the Sultans to learn from the experience and ensure they deliver regardless of circumstances in future matches.

Minhas also reflected on his own role within the team and his aspirations.

“My role is very clear—I know exactly at what number I need to bat and when I am expected to bowl. The management has shown full trust in me, and I am grateful for that. I waited a long time for this opportunity, and now that I have it, I don’t want to let it go to waste. Regarding my performance, it’s there for everyone to see, but I am not satisfied yet. I don’t think I’ve reached 100% of my potential, and I want to do much better than this.”
