ISLAMABAD: Judicial Magistrate Ehtesham Muqarrab has approved a five-day physical remand of the accused arrested in the murder case of businessman Amir Awan in the federal capital.
During the hearing on Wednesday, the accused arrested by the federal police were presented in court and a request was made for an 8-day physical remand and it was said that the murder weapon and stolen property were to be recovered.
The court handed over the accused to the police on a five-day physical remand and ordered them to be produced again after the physical remand is completed.
The hearing was adjourned until April 6. The case is registered in the Shahzad Town police station.
In another case, after his wife’s acquittal, the husband was arrested two years later in the same case and taken on physical remand.
During the hearing in the court of Judicial Magistrate Rizwanuddin, Muhammad Mudassar, who was arrested by the federal police, was presented before the court and a request was made for a seven-day physical remand.
Defense lawyer Habib Hanzala opposed the remand and took the position that the police had picked up the accused two days ago and kept him in unjustified detention.
“We had approached the Islamabad High Court on the unjustified detention. The IHC has asked for a report from the SP concerned, so now the accused has been produced.”
Earlier, the accused was not nominated in any supplementary or plaintiff case.
After hearing the arguments, the court handed over Mudassar to the police on a one-day physical remand for medical treatment.
A case of theft worth Rs25 crore had been registered in the Lohi Bher police station.
