ISLAMABAD: The Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) has issued a notice to the attorney general in a reference sent by the National Assembly Speaker regarding the disqualification of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Sohail Sultan, who was declared successful from National Assembly constituency NA-4 Swat.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Aamer Farooq on Monday heard the appeal filed by Sohail Sultan concerning the reference. PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan Advocate appeared on Sultan’s behalf. The court after the preliminary hearing, issued a notice to the attorney general to seek legal opinion on the matter and adjourned further proceedings for date-in-office.
It is pertinent to mention here that the reference filed by the NA Speaker had stated that Sohail Sultan had served as Assistant Advocate General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (a government position) for three years prior to the elections, therefore, he was not eligible to contest elections for any public office for two years, and hence should be declared disqualified for the seat.
