ISLAMABAD: To overhaul national security and financial integrity, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has announced a comprehensive restructuring of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), aimed at transforming it into a premier frontline force against organised crime.

During a high-level visit to the agency’s headquarters, the minister reviewed ongoing infrastructure upgrades and issued a firm directive to complete the reform process by December of this year. Under this new vision, the FIA is leveraging cutting-edge digital tools and modern technology to dismantle sophisticated networks involved in money laundering, high-level financial fraud and illegal hundi or hawala transfers.

The minister stressed a strict zero-tolerance policy toward corruption within government institutions, aligning the agency’s mission with the prime minister’s broader transparency goals. Beyond financial oversight, the FIA is intensifying its crackdown on human trafficking and migrant smuggling while simultaneously strengthening immigration controls to maintain rigorous border integrity. As part of this enforcement surge, authorities have been directed to implement online monitoring of overseas job advertisements to protect the public from fraudulent schemes and misleading employment offers.

Providing a detailed operational briefing, FIA Director General Dr Usman Anwar confirmed that the agency had already compiled a comprehensive database of human smugglers and their facilitators. To ensure internal excellence, a transparent accountability system has been established within the organisation, supported by the formation of specialised working groups and coordination committees alongside other agencies. Backed by full government support at every level, the revitalised FIA is set to deploy advanced technological solutions to modernise its anti-money laundering and anti-human smuggling operations, ensuring a more secure and resilient economic landscape for the country.
