PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Friday issued a notice to the Ministry of States and Frontier Regions (Safron), seeking its response within 14 days on petitions filed by 12 Afghan refugees to halt their deportation.
The petitions were heard by a two-member bench comprising Justice Waqar Ahmad and Justice Farah Jamshed.
During the hearing, counsel for the petitioners, along with the Additional Advocate General and Additional Attorney General, appeared before the court.
The petitioners’ lawyer informed the bench that his clients were Afghan nationals residing in Khorasan Camp and they had approached the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for permission to stay in Pakistan.
He stated that their applications were currently pending with UNHCR and requested the court to restrain authorities from deporting them until a decision was made on their cases.
Officials of the Federal Investigation Agency submitted their response in court.
