Islamabad : In a strategic move to streamline the federal capital’s traffic management, the Islamabad Police authorities have officially appointed SSP Muhammad Sarfraz Virk as the new Chief Traffic Officer (CTO).
The appointment was formalised through an official notification issued by the Central Police Office following the approval of Inspector General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi.
This marks a significant return for SSP Virk, who assumes the responsibility of CTO for the second time within a span of 11 months.
SSP Virk takes over the position from outgoing CTO Captain (r) Hamza Humayun, who has vacated the post to attend a mid-career management course.
Demonstrating the department’s confidence in his administrative capabilities, the authorities have directed SSP Virk to continue overseeing his current duties in his additional role within the Special Branch.
His reappointment is backed by extensive experience within the capital’s traffic and security apparatus.
Having previously served in the Traffic Division, he was transferred to the Security Division as SSP in February 2025, and his return to the CTO office on March 28, 2026, signifies a tactical rotation of seasoned leadership.
Beyond his previous stint as SSP Traffic, he has also served as Superintendent of Police within the traffic department, providing him with a granular understanding of the city’s logistical and safety challenges.
The Islamabad Police department expects that his familiarisation with the capital’s traffic dynamics will ensure a seamless transition and a renewed focus on road safety and public service.
