ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) has introduced a series of coordinated measures aimed at enhancing access to justice by integrating technology-driven hearings with improved case management practices, ensuring judicial services remain efficient, accessible and uninterrupted.
As part of these reforms, the court is increasingly enabling lawyers and litigants to participate in proceedings via video link from across the country, eliminating the need to travel to Islamabad.
The initiative is particularly beneficial for individuals from remote and underserved areas, significantly reducing costs and logistical challenges.
During a recent hearing on March 24, 2026, counsel appeared through video link from Quetta, Hyderabad and Karachi, demonstrating the practical effectiveness of the system in facilitating smooth and inclusive proceedings, according to a press release issued on Thursday.
The statement added that the expansion of virtual hearings forms part of a broader reform framework spearheaded by the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan. The initiative includes continued coordination with High Courts, especially in regions without Supreme Court branch registries as well as capacity-building efforts for court staff.
These measures are being implemented alongside enhanced case management practices necessitated by the government’s austerity and energy conservation policies.
