Pakistan, Oman boost energy ties, seek preferential fuel supplies

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Oman have reaffirmed their commitment to deepen energy cooperation, with Islamabad seeking preferential fuel supplies and Muscat signalling support as both sides respond to shifting regional dynamics.

Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik met Omani Ambassador Fahad Bin Sulaiman Bin Khalaf Alkharusi on Thursday to review the evolving energy landscape and explore avenues for expanding bilateral collaboration.

The minister underscored longstanding ties between the two nations and reiterated Pakistan’s intent to broaden its energy partnership with Oman. Malik highlighted Pakistan’s efforts to diversify energy imports and secure supply resilience, including exploring routes beyond the Strait of Hormuz amid regional uncertainties.

The ambassador welcomed the strategy and conveyed Oman’s readiness to support Pakistan’s energy security, responding positively to a request for preferential cargoes.In March alone, Pakistan imported three petrol cargoes and one diesel shipment from Oman, with two additional petrol cargoes expected within the month. They also focused on strengthening upstream cooperation in exploration and production, while discussions continue between Pakistan State Oil and Oman Trading International on securing further oil supplies. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding strategic energy ties for mutual benefit.
