LAHORE: In what is being described as one of the most extensive regulatory overhauls in the province’s history, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has significantly intensified its crackdown on food adulteration while introducing governance reforms including body-worn cameras and standardised uniforms aimed at ensuring transparency, accountability and credibility of enforcement operations.
Officials said the introduction of body cameras would create a verifiable record of inspections, discourage corrupt practices and protect both inspectors and businesses by ensuring procedural transparency. The move comes alongside a broader enforcement campaign that authorities claim has surpassed key performance benchmarks of the previous five-year period within just two years, marking what they termed a “decisive shift” in food safety governance.
The reforms are part of a comprehensive “farm to consumer” strategy under which a uniform food safety regime has been enforced across all tiers of the supply chain from agricultural production units to processing facilities, distribution networks, international food chains, local markets, roadside vendors, and educational institutions, including schools and universities.
