LAHORE: The Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Animal Agriculture Association of Jinan to strengthen institutional cooperation in livestock modernisation and dairy value chain development, officials said at a think tank session held at the PCJCCI Secretariat on Tuesday.

The agreement aims to promote collaboration in dairy technology transfer, modern livestock management practices, skills development, research linkages and investment facilitation, the chamber said.

Pakistan’s dairy sector could benefit from closer cooperation with China, particularly amid rising demand for premium dairy products in the Chinese market, the chamber noted, adding that this presents an opportunity to support growth in the domestic industry.

Pakistan is among the world’s top five milk-producing countries, generating more than 60 million tonnes annually. Increased joint ventures and export-oriented initiatives could help strengthen the country’s economy, participants said, noting that China views Pakistan as an important dairy producer in South Asia.

They added that the adoption of cost-effective Chinese technologies and advanced production and management systems could enhance efficiency and competitiveness in Pakistan’s dairy sector.
