KARACHI: The parliamentary party of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) met in Karachi under the chairmanship of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Sunday, where senior party leadership and Sindh government officials reviewed the political and governance situation and emphasised unity amid challenging global circumstances.

The meeting was attended by President Asif Ali Zardari, First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari and Faryal Talpur, the central president of PPP Women’s Wing. Also present were Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, President PPP (Sindh) Nisar Khuhro, along with members of the provincial cabinet and PPP MPAs.

Addressing the meeting, Zardari said the party continued to advance the mission of its founding leaders, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, stressing that their legacy of public service remained the guiding force behind PPP’s politics.

Referring to the global situation, the president said the world was currently facing conditions akin to conflict and instability, adding that unity within the country was essential during such times. He expressed full confidence in Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and his cabinet, praising their performance in governing Sindh.

“You and your team are doing very good work. Continue this positive momentum,” Zardari told the CM, urging ministers and members of the Sindh Assembly to remain committed to serving the public. He also instructed them to provide as much relief as possible to citizens despite the prevailing economic and administrative challenges.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari echoed the call for political unity, saying the global environment resembled a period of heightened tensions and that all political forces in Pakistan should stand on the same page in the national interest.

Bilawal expressed satisfaction with the performance of Sindh government, particularly commending CM Shah for effectively presenting and defending the province’s case despite numerous challenges.

The PPP chairman also defended Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, saying, “Some elements are uncomfortable with the presence of a committed PPP mayor in the provincial capital.”
