CHITRAL: The community-based weather alert stations have been established across the vulnerable Kalash valleys to combat the rising frequency of climate-induced disasters.

The weather alert stations have been established in Bamburate, Rambur, and Birir under ‘Increasing Communities’ Resilience to Climate Change,’ funded by the government of Denmark and implemented through the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH) Pakistan.

The project aims to provide critical, life-saving early warnings to residents who have long lived under the constant threat of devastating flash floods. For years, the inhabitants of these scenic valleys have faced the peril of sudden summer monsoon floods that strike with little to no warning.
