ISLAMABAD: British High Commissioner Jane Marriott Wednesday called on Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, in his chamber.
Akhunzada Hussain Yousafzai, spokesperson for the Tehreek Tahaffuz Aiyeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP), the opposition alliance, was also present on the occasion. Achakzai heads the TTAP.
According to the opposition alliance spokesman, during the meeting, matters of mutual interest between Pakistan and the UK, promotion of bilateral relations, overall situation in the region and the possible impact of fluctuations in oil prices in the global market on the were discussed in detail. On this occasion, both the sides emphasised the importance of mutual cooperation, strengthening democratic values and promoting peace and stability in the region. Akhunzada said the meeting took place in a pleasant and constructive atmosphere in which it was agreed to further strengthen mutual relations and maintain contact on matters of common interest. Later, in an informal chat with the media, when she was asked as to what the agenda of the meeting was, Jane Marriott replied that it was a private discussion.
Then she was questioned what the purpose of her meeting was with the opposition leader, she said it was a pleasure to come to parliament and meet political leaders.
