ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan on Monday questioned the 20 percent increase in the petrol price if the government had one month’s stock of the fuel.

Talking to the media here, he said the opposition did its best to seek permission to speak in the National Assembly on the issue, as the Rs55 per litre hike in the petrol price was unconstitutional and illegal.

He contended that the government did not handle the petrol issue properly and that the Oil and Gas Regulation Authority (Ogra) should have done a better job. He regretted that petrol was more expensive in Pakistan than in other countries.

Some people say if they (rulers) had increased the price by Rs110 per litre, then what would they have done? Gohar was indirectly referring to a statement made by a female PMLN lawmaker, who the other day said so and drew the public ire. Her clip went viral everywhere.

Gohar said the government did not care about the nation’s pain in the wake of a big jump in oil prices. However, he requested the government to provide relief to the people, but insisted that real relief could only be provided by a government elected by the people. Speaking on the occasion, Shahid Khattak said the government had dropped petrol bomb on the people of Pakistan.
