LAHORE: The Forestry, Wildlife and Animal Welfare Society of the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS) Campus of the Civil Services Academy, in collaboration with the Public Health, Environment and Horticulture Society, organised a comprehensive programme of activities focusing on forest conservation, wildlife protection, animal welfare, environmental sustainability and horticulture.
Jahanzeb Khan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Special Initiatives related to the facilitation of investment in Pakistan, attended the ceremony as the guest of honour, while Director General of the Civil Services Academy Farhan Aziz Khawaja graced the occasion as the chief guest.
The event was attended by several distinguished dignitaries who also serve as advisers to the societies. Among them were Saman Rai, Commissioner of the Overseas Pakistanis Commission Punjab, Ehsan Bhutta, Secretary to the Government of Punjab in the Auqaf Department Punjab and Waheed Asghar, Member of the Planning and Development Board Punjab. The ceremony was also attended by Director PAS Academy Faisal Zahoor, Additional Director Usman Ali, and members of the societies comprising probationary officers of the 48th Specialised Training Programme currently being conducted at the PAS Campus.
During the event, the president of the Animal Welfare Society briefed the distinguished guests about the society’s initiatives relating to wildlife conservation and animal welfare. On the occasion, the dignitaries were presented with a book published by the society highlighting endangered animal and bird species in Pakistan.
The publication has been prepared with the objective of creating awareness among young students, particularly those studying in government schools. As part of the outreach initiative, the book is currently being distributed among schoolchildren across Lahore to sensitise them about the importance of protecting wildlife and preserving biodiversity.
A brief ceremony was also held for the distribution of these books among primary school students of the Government Customs Academy School located on Walton Road, Lahore, which is now known as the Civil Services Academy School. The chief guest and guest of honour, along with other dignitaries, personally distributed the books among the students, encouraging them to learn about wildlife protection and environmental responsibility.
Another significant feature of the programme was the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Environment and Horticulture Society of the PAS Campus and the Environmental Protection Agency Punjab. The agreement was signed in the presence of the distinguished guests, with the agency represented by its Director General Imran Hamid Sheikh.
Under the MoU, the Environmental Protection Agency will assist the Civil Services Academy in transforming the PAS Campus into an environmentally friendly and sustainable facility. The collaboration will involve a series of initiatives and activities in the coming weeks aimed at improving environmental practices within the campus.
