PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Thursday said strong collaboration among parliament, law enforcement agencies and civil society was essential to effectively counter terrorism and its financing.
He said this while addressing as chief guest a provincial dialogue titled “Parliamentary Role and Institutional Capacity Building against Counter Terrorism and Terrorist Financing” organized by the Sustainable Social Development Organization (SSDO) here.
The event was attended by SSDO Executive Director Syed Kausar Abbas, parliamentarians, representatives of law enforcement agencies, civil society members, academicians and other stakeholders.
The governor said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had remained on the frontline in Pakistan’s war against terrorism.He said the people of the province, police and security forces had rendered unprecedented sacrifices for the restoration of peace.
The governor appreciated SSDO and the British High Commission for jointly organizing the dialogue in Peshawar on an important subject, particularly in a province that had been greatly affected by terrorism.
He said Pakistan had developed a strong legal and institutional framework to counter terrorism and terrorist financing, adding that the role of provincial institutions was equally important for effective implementation of these policies.
Faisal Karim Kundi said elected representatives, particularly from Khyber Pukhtunkhwa, must play an active role in legislation, policymaking and oversight to ensure that counterterrorism efforts move forward in line with democratic principles and the rule of law.
He urged all stakeholders to work together for building a peaceful, secure and prosperous Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Pakistan.
