RAWALPINDI: Aleema Khan, sister of former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan, has said that her family’s foremost concern at this stage is ensuring his proper medical treatment rather than arranging prison visits, voicing grave concern over his reported eye condition.
Speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail, she said the family was deeply alarmed after learning about complications related to his eye and lamented that they had not been provided with any official or detailed medical information.
“We certainly want to meet him and see him in person, but his medical treatment is our absolute priority,” she said, alleging that the authorities were acting unlawfully and deliberately withholding crucial details about his health.
Aleema Khan claimed that Imran Khan had been kept in solitary confinement and that the family had yet to receive a comprehensive medical report outlining his condition. She alleged that doctors nominated by the family for his examination were rejected by the government, which instead dispatched its own medical team to conduct an assessment inside the jail.
“To this day, we have not been given a complete and transparent medical report. The government is not being truthful. His eye has not recovered even 90 percent,” she said, adding that the family fears his second eye could also be affected if proper treatment was not ensured without delay.
She also revealed that a petition had been filed in accordance with Supreme Court directives, seeking his transfer to Shifa International Hospital for specialized medical care. Questioning the credibility of the authorities, she remarked, “Should we simply accept the government’s claims about his treatment when we believe there may be intentions to cause harm?”
She alleged that the family of Bushra Bibi was not permitted to meet her despite having visited the jail premises, terming the move unjust and discriminatory. She expressed hope that members of the legal community would soon mobilize against the 26th and 27th constitutional amendments, asserting that Imran Khan had been awaiting such action for nearly two years. She maintained that public support for him remains intact and that many citizens continue to look forward to his eventual release.
Referring to regional security concerns, Aleema Khan said Imran Khan has consistently opposed war as a solution to conflicts, particularly in relation to Afghanistan.
