ISLAMABAD: The Senate was informed on Tuesday that the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) had received 138,612 Cyber Tipline (CT) digital reports on child sex abuse material during the current year so far.

According to the information shared with the House in writing, Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi said the agency received a total of 523 local complaints during the year 2025 and first two months of 2026.

Out of these, he noted, 385 complaints were currently under inquiry, while 93 had been converted into FIRs. This year, the NCCIA has registered 21 FIRs to date. He added the agency received 837,278 CT digital reports relating to child sexual abuse material last year and 1,034,639 in 2024.

He said to strengthen the national response to online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (CSEA), the UK-Pakistan Serious Crime and Law Enforcement Programme (UPSCALE) was supporting Pakistan through the provision of advanced technological solutions.

Under this initiative, essential IT hardware and Al-based “Katalyst” software have been provided to enhance Pakistan’s capacity to effectively detect, analyse, and respond to CSEA cases. The required hardware has been installed and fully configured.

To another question, Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif told the House that the perceived revenue loss of Rs200 billion had been experienced from August 2020 till December 2024 in relation to emergence of fake pilot license issue.

“PIA went out of its most lucrative market of UK which gave direct benefits to its competitors (Emirates, Qatar, Etihad, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic),” he maintained.

The entity experienced operational constraints, as a total of 141 PIA pilots were grounded immediately after the announcement, causing a severe reputational loss to the airline. However, this number was gradually reduced to 17 pilots after verification of status.
