Another 211 shopkeepers fined for profiteering

Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi chaired a daily review meeting on Monday at his office and directed deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners to take strict action against profiteers, ensuring prices are controlled to provide citizens with relief during holy month of Ramazan.

On the 12th day of Ramazan, 211 shopkeepers were fined, with total fines of Rs1,454,500. One shop was sealed. Prices were checked at 1,066 locations, and on-spot action was taken at 225 locations.

According to details released by the commissioner office, on the 12th Ramazan, items worth Rs570,416 were sold at 225 locations, including 1,777kg fruits worth Rs356,350, 655kg vegetables worth Rs24,491, 170kg meat and poultry worth Rs157,435, 194kg groceries worth Rs32,140.

The meeting was attended among others by Additional Commissioner I Ghulam Mehdi Shah, Additional Commissioner II Asadullah Khoso, Deputy Commissioner Keamari Amir Fazal Khoso, Assistant Commissioner HQ Rabia Syed, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Sajjad Abro, and Assistant Commissioner General Waqas Abbasi.

Deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners presented their district and sub-division performance reports. The commissioner office monitoring team reviewed implementation of official rates and reported on visits to complaint centers and supermarkets.
