One of Pakistan’s most senior civil servants and a distinguished education expert, Mazhar-ul-Haq Siddiqui, passed away in Karachi on Thursday. His funeral will be held in the city on Friday (today).Siddiqui was serving as chairman of the Board of Directors of Hum Network Limited and was the elder brother of its president, Sultana Siddiqui. His funeral will take place today after the Friday prayer at Masjid-e-Usman Ghani near McDonald’s, Sea View, DHA.
During his illustrious career in the Government of Pakistan, he held several key and senior positions, including secretary of the Education Ministry and Secretary of Finance. He also served as vice-chancellor of University of Sindh and rendered significant services in the Services and General Administration Department.
Sindh Senior Minister for Information Sharjeel Inam Memon expressed deep sorrow and extended condolences on the demise of the former VC of the University of Sindh. He described Siddiqui’s death as a significant loss to academic, social and journalistic circles, adding that the late Siddiqui was a dignified, compassionate and principled individual who set an example of public service throughout his life. He said he shared the grief of the Siddiqui family in this difficult time.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also conveyed his condolences and expressed deep grief over Siddiqui’s passing. He said that in this hour of sorrow, they stood in solidarity with the Siddiqui family and prayed that Allah Almighty grant the deceased the highest place in Jannat-ul-Firdous and bestow patience upon the bereaved family.
