PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Wednesday said only a jammer and two vehicles were taken back from former chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
Gandapur on Tuesday said that the security provided to him had been withdrawn. The former chief minister had said he had been provided with one government-issued jammer, a double-cabin vehicle and a team of 14 security personnel by the provincial government.
The sources at the Chief Minister’s House, however, denied reports of any such move that led to confusion. “Former chief ministers, including Ali Amin Gandapur, are not authorised to use jammers or vehicles from the Chief Minister’s House,” said the sources at the Chief Minister’s House.
They said Gandapur had taken one jammer and two vehicles from the Chief Minister’s House. The sources added that the former chief minister used the jammer and the two vehicles for four months.
The sources said only one jammer is available for the movement of KP Chief Minister Mohammad Sohail Afridi, confirming that the second jammer and two vehicles were retrieved from Ali Amin Gandapur when a need arose. They insisted that security for former chief ministers is provided by the police department.
Meanwhile, Dera Ismail Khan police claimed that security has not been completely withdrawn from Ali Amin Gandapur. The police said a total of 77 personnel were deployed for the former CM’s security, including 58 from the Security Wing, 12 from Frontier Reserve Police, and seven regular police officers.
On the other hand, Ali Amin Gandapur’s spokesperson Faraz Mughal told Geo News that Gandapur should have been informed earlier if he was not authorised to use the jammer and vehicles. Faraz Mughal described the sudden retrieval of the jammer and vehicles from Gandapur as “beyond understanding”.
