KARACHI: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has invited the national chambers of commerce and industry of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to convene bilateral Joint Business Council meetings to promote trade and economic cooperation, with a focus on regional connectivity and greater economic integration.

Atif Ikram Sheikh, president of the FPCCI, said that following recent high-level visits by the leadership of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to Pakistan — which underscored the need to strengthen economic and trade ties — he had initiated steps to expand private-sector collaboration among member states of the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO).

Sheikh said the proposed meetings would review existing bilateral trade relations, assess progress on commercial understandings reached during recent engagements, and identify priority sectors for future growth and investment. The initiative also envisages business-to-business meetings, single-country exhibitions and the exchange of trade delegations to strengthen direct links between business communities.

The FPCCI said letters had been sent to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan and the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Atameken, highlighting the need for structured institutional engagement to translate political goodwill into concrete economic outcomes.

Sheikh added that closer coordination among ECO member chambers would be vital for enhancing regional connectivity, promoting intra-regional trade and advancing economic integration across the region.
