PESHAWAR: An Additional District and Sessions Court in Peshawar on Saturday rejected the bail applications of two policemen arrested over the alleged custodial death of a young man and ordered that they should remain behind bars.
The case was heard by Additional District and Sessions Judge Tila Muhammad. Defence counsel, prosecutor and other relevant parties appeared in the court.
According to the prosecution, the arrested cops identified as Matiullah and Saud Khan were posted at the Sufaid Dheri Police Post when they detained a citizen, identified as Ejaz, on suspicion of vehicle theft.
The victim, a resident of Regi locality, was allegedly subjected to physical torture during custody and later died as a result of the injuries.
A judicial magistrate conducted an inquiry into the incident, after which the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) registered a case against the two cops.
Following the registration of the first information report (FIR), the accused had sought pre-arrest bail, which was rejected, leading to their arrest. After being taken into custody, they filed post-arrest bail petitions.
After hearing detailed arguments from both sides, the court dismissed the bail applications of both the accused policemen, directing that they remain in jail adjourning further proceedings.
