Rawalpindi : Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rawalpindi Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema has ordered indiscriminate action against hoarding, profiteering and overcharging to ensure maximum relief for citizens during the holy month of Ramazan.
He issued these directions while chairing a late-night meeting at his office to review price control measures and arrangements for the Nigehban Dastarkhwan programme.
The meeting was attended by Additional DC (General) Dr Hassan Tariq, assistant commissioners, price magistrates and other relevant officers.
The DC directed that prices of essential commodities must remain under control at all costs.
He instructed field officers to intensify market inspections and ensure that food items are available at government-notified rates across the district.
Highlighting the importance of public relief, Dr Cheema said the district administration is fully mobilized and that strict monitoring is underway.
He warned that no leniency would be shown to those found involved in artificial price hikes or illegal stockpiling.
Regarding the ‘Nigehban Dastarkhwan’ initiative, he said that under the vision of the Government of Punjab, the programme will continue throughout the district to provide quality and dignified iftar meals to deserving and underprivileged individuals.
He stressed that cleanliness, transparency and food quality must be ensured at every centre without compromise.
DC further announced that such review meetings will be held daily to assess field performance.
He made it clear that immediate action would be taken on public complaints and that assistant commissioners and price magistrates must ensure prominent display of official price lists in markets and take strict legal action against violators.
