PESHAWAR: An accountability court here on Friday handed over Fazal Khan, director of a private company arrested in connection with the Upper Kohistan mega scandal, to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on an additional eight-day physical remand.

The case was heard by Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Zafar. The suspect’s counsel, NAB prosecutor, and the bureau’s investigation officer appeared before the court.

The NAB prosecutor informed the court that the accused, owner of a private company, had deposited Rs5.277 billion allegedly embezzled in the Kohistan scandal into his accounts. He said the suspect had received cheques illegally without carrying out the relevant construction work.

According to the prosecutor, the accused had opened bank accounts at various banks and in collusion with his associates, he later withdrew the amount from the accounts and used it for personal purposes.

NAB had issued arrest warrants for the suspect on July 8, 2025.

The prosecutor requested the court to grant a 14-day physical remand of the accused to facilitate further investigation into the embezzled amount and related assets in the Kohistan scandal.

However, the court granted an additional eight-day physical remand and adjourned the hearing.
