COLOMBO: In a decisive move aimed at reviving the fortunes of the country’s national game, Secretary Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Mohyuddin Wani has assumed charge as the Ad-hoc President of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), promising transparency, structural reforms and a renewed push to restore Pakistan hockey’s lost glory.

Soon after taking over, Wani laid out a clear and ambitious roadmap to rebuild confidence within the federation and among stakeholders, vowing to strengthen governance, streamline management, and create a professional environment where players can focus solely on performance.

“As the new Ad-hoc President of Pakistan Hockey Federation, I assure stakeholders of my commitment to the revival and strengthening of hockey in Pakistan,” Wani stated. In his first major decision, Wani announced the immediate lifting of the ban on national team captain Hammad Butt, signaling a conciliatory and reform-oriented approach.

The move has been widely viewed as an effort to stabilize the team environment and rebuild unity ahead of upcoming international commitments.“Players will focus on training and matches, while we will handle the rest,” Wani emphasized, underlining his intention to shield athletes from administrative turbulence.

Wani revealed a two-tier reform strategy. In the short term, the federation will address pressing administrative and operational challenges. The medium-term plan focuses on overhauling the training system, redefining strategic vision, and promoting institutional coherence across all hockey structures in the country.

He pledged to:Improve governance standards within PHFEnsure transparent and effective resource managementBuild trust among stakeholdersEstablish partnerships with the private sector to provide financial and structural support to players

“Transparency and fairness will guide our decisions,” Wani declared, making it clear that accountability would be the cornerstone of the new administration.Highlighting the temporary nature of his assignment, Wani called for a democratic transition within the federation.

“Let us ensure democratic change and hold elections for new leadership,” he said, stressing the importance of institutional continuity and lawful governance. He also expressed gratitude to the country’s leadership, thanking the Honorable Prime Minister for reposing trust in him at a critical juncture for Pakistan hockey.Wani maintained that all relevant institutions are now aligned to work collectively for the revival of the sport that once brought global laurels to the nation.
