ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced on Friday that Islamabad Model Jail project was expected to become fully operational in next two months.

He said once the jail was completed, the PTI founder, Imran Khan, would be shifted there. Speaking to the media, Naqvi said that the Islamabad jail would be completed within two months, after which the PTI founder would be moved to that facility.

He added that all medical facilities would be available inside the new jail. Since the PTI founder was sentenced by a court in Islamabad, he would be shifted to the Islamabad jail.

Mohsin Naqvi inspected progress on the Islamabad Model Jail and a newly-built trainee officers’ hostel at the National Police Academy, terming the projects vital to modernising the capital’s security infrastructure.

Officials briefed him that over 85pc of Phase 1 of the long-delayed jail project had been completed. To avoid further delays, he ordered double-shift construction. The facility would feature advanced security systems, including dual perimeter walls, digital monitoring and a central control room. He was accompanied by senior officials, including the IGP and FIA director general.
