Four cops martyred in DI Khan attack

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Four policemen, including a station house officer (SHO), were martyred and two others injured when terrorists opened heavy fire on a police party during a search operation in the limits of Panyala Police Station, officials said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred in the Wanda Budh area where police and Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel were conducting a search operation following reports about the presence of terrorists. The operation was led by SP Paharpur Iqbal Baloch and DSP Paharpur Hafiz Muhammad Adnan. The terrorists opened indiscriminate firing with heavy weapons upon seeing the police party. The police retaliated but, as a result of the firing, SHO of Shaheed Nawab Police Station Faheem Mumtaz, Constable Irfan Khan, Constable Ghulam Subhani and Constable Wajahat were martyred. DSP Paharpur Hafiz Muhammad Adnan and Assistant Sub-Inspector Tariq Marwat sustained injuries in the attack.

Upon receiving information about the incident, DPO Sajjad Ahmed Sahibzada reached the site along with a large police contingent. A search operation was launched in the area to trace the attackers.

The bodies of martyred personnel and injured were shifted to District Headquarters Teaching Hospital, Dera Ismail Khan. Officials said the condition of DSP Hafiz Muhammad Adnan was out of danger.

Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi expressed deep sorrow over the attack on police and sought a report on the incident. He termed the attack on DSP Hafiz Adnan and other officers highly tragic and said he was grieved over the martyrdom of SHO Faheem Mumtaz and other personnel. The governor said the brave sons of Dera police embraced martyrdom for the protection of the country and its people.
