Most Lahorites back govt’s decision on Basant: survey

LAHORE: A majority of residents in Lahore have supported the Punjab government’s decision to revive and celebrate Basant, according to a survey conducted by Pulse Consultants. The survey was carried out among more than 1,000 respondents from different parts of Lahore, reflecting public opinion across the city.

In response to the question of whether the Punjab government’s decision to celebrate Basant was correct, 53 percent of participants said they supported the move. Meanwhile, 28 percent opposed the decision and termed it wrong, while 20 percent remained neutral, neither supporting nor opposing the government’s stance. The survey further revealed a gender-wise breakdown, showing that 54 percent of men and 50 percent of women were in favor of celebrating Basant.

The survey also assessed public views on security arrangements during Basant celebrations. According to the findings, 62 percent of respondents expressed complete satisfaction with the security measures put in place, whereas 18 percent said they were dissatisfied. Another 25 percent adopted a neutral position regarding security arrangements. Regarding participation in the festivities, 54 percent of respondents said they celebrated Basant. When asked about the locations where Basant was celebrated, 72 percent of respondents said they marked the occasion on the rooftop of their own homes.

Additionally, 35 percent reported celebrating on someone else’s rooftop, while 14 percent said they participated in Basant celebrations at organized events or programs.
