IIU hosts roundtable highlighting academia, industry integration

Islamabad : International Islamic University (IIU), Islamabad hosted a National Semiconductor Roundtable Conference under the visionary leadership of its President, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saad Alahmed, reaffirming the University’s role in shaping Pakistan’s technological future.

Following the recitation of the Holy Quran, the President’s addressed highlighted the strategic importance of the semiconductor industry for Pakistan and expressed pride in IIUI’s leadership role in this national transformation, while noting alignment with regional initiatives, including Saudi Arabia’s semiconductor vision, says a press release.

Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed, Vice President (Research & Enterprise), IIUI, who spearheaded the initiative, delivered key reflections on building a sustainable semiconductor ecosystem, emphasizing long-term policy continuity, institutional coherence, workforce development, and IIUI’s pioneering work in advanced electronics and microelectronics.

The conference was graced by Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, who appreciated IIUI for convening a timely national dialogue aligned with the Prime Minister’s INSPIRE initiative, the National Semiconductor Initiative (October 2025), and URAAN Pakistan.

The roundtable featured three technical panels spanning policy and governance, industry and job creation, and the academic landscape, alongside international contributions from Dr. Naveed Sherwani (National Semiconductor Hub, Saudi Arabia) and Dr. Farhat Jahangir (GS Microelectronics), collectively reaffirming IIUI’s leadership in advancing a future-facing semiconductor ecosystem for Pakistan.
