PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Friday issued a written order on a petition filed by the chief minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, challenging a notice issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) over alleged threats to government officers during the Haripur by-election campaign. In its order, the court restrained the ECP from issuing a final order against the chief minister, while allowing it to continue proceedings in the matter.
The petition was heard by a two-member bench comprising Justice Syed Arshad Ali and Justice Faheem Wali. During the hearing, counsel for the petitioner, Bashir Khan Wazir, appeared before the court and argued that the ECP had taken notice of a speech delivered by the chief minister during a public gathering in connection with the Haripur by-election, alleging that he had threatened government officials. The court subsequently issued a short order, later followed by a written judgment.
