A sessions court has sentenced a man to death on charges of killing the husband of his former wife over personal enmity.
Muhammad Riaz alias Raju was found guilty of stabbing Muhammad Adil to death at the victim’s hairdresseing shop in the Old Sabzi Mandi area on February 5, 2024. According to state prosecutor Pervez Ahmed Qureshi, a murder case was lodged against accused Riaz on the complaint of the victim’s uncle Iftikhar, who stated that his nephew Adil had a hairdresser shop at Colonel Welfare Colony, Old Sabzi Mandi. On February 5, 2024, Riaz, who was the first husband of the wife of his nephew, killed Adil by way of knife blows due to personal enmity.
On the other hand, the accused claimed innocence, saying that he had been falsely implicated in the case. In his written order, the judge noted: “All evidence of the prosecution was confronted to the accused in his statement under Section 342 [of] CrPC, to which the accused simply denied. The accused neither examined himself on oath nor did he produce any defence evidence.” The FIR was lodged at the PIB Colony police station under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
