LAHORE: FIFA President Gianni Infantino has announced plans to visit Pakistan “very soon”, reaffirming his commitment to supporting the growth of football in the country.
Speaking in an interview with a local pdigital TV on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos, Infantino revealed that the visit had already been promised to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Infantino praised the current leadership of the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF), describing the new president as doing “a fantastic job.” He called Pakistan a “great football country” and emphasized FIFA’s ambition to elevate Pakistan’s standing in Asian football. “We need to bring Pakistan to the head, to the top of Asia for sure,” Infantino said, adding that FIFA is actively working toward that goal.
Pakistan’s relationship with FIFA has gained fresh momentum in recent months: In December 2025, Pakistani lawmaker Syeda Amnah Batool was appointed to FIFA’s Institutional Reforms Committee, signaling greater representation in global football governance.
