LAHORE: The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has officially welcomed its eighth franchise, with owners Kamil Khan and Hamza Majeed unveiling the team name and logo as the Sialkot Stallions.
Purchased by OZ Developers for a staggering Rs1.85 billion during the January 8 auction, the franchise revives one of Pakistan’s most iconic cricketing brands, linking PSL’s future with Sialkot’s storied past. Confirming weeks of speculation, Khan announced the name on social media, writing: “You guessed it. You waited. Now, I am proud to officially introduce SIALKOT STALLIONS.” He expressed excitement about joining Pakistan’s premier cricket league, while co-owner Hamza Majeed emphasised that the Stallions name is more than a title—it is an identity rooted in Sialkot’s cricketing heritage.
The franchise draws inspiration from the legendary Sialkot Stallions, Pakistan’s most successful domestic T20 side. Between 2005 and 2012, the Stallions won six National T20 Cup titles, including a world-record 25-match unbeaten streak, achievements that cemented their place in cricket history. They also became the first Pakistani domestic team invited to the Champions League Twenty20 in 2012, showcasing their pedigree on the international stage.
PSL-11, set to begin on March 26, will also mark Faisalabad’s return as a host venue, expanding the league’s footprint. The season introduces a new player auction system, replacing the draft. Under the revised rules, franchises may retain only four players—one per category—compared to the previous allowance of eight plus additional rights. This change promises heightened competition in squad-building, with the Stallions aiming to blend international stars with strong local talent.
