The Sindh Universities and Boards Department has taken serious notice of illegal encroachments on the University of Karachi’s land and has directed the district administration to take immediate legal and administrative action.
In this regard, a formal letter has been written to the deputy commissioner of District East, highlighting the continued unlawful occupation of land falling within the KU jurisdiction.
According to the letter, at least two petrol pumps have been illegally established on the university’s land – one University Road and another near Khatam-e-Nabuwwat Chowk, close to Kaneez Fatima Society. The department maintained that these encroachments amount to unlawful occupation of public land and undermine the authority of a major public sector university.
The deputy commissioner has been asked to immediately halt the encroachment activities, ensure protection of the university’s land, and furnish details of any inquiry already conducted in the matter to the department at the earliest, so that further necessary action can be initiated.
