Lawyer gunned down in Haripur

HARIPUR: Unidentified assailants gunned down a lawyer in the limits of Khalabat Township Police Station here on Saturday, police officials said.

Officials said Inyatullah Khan Advocate was on the way to home when three unidentified assailants riding a motorcar intercepted him near the shrine of Abid Sha and opened fire, killing him on the spot. The Rescue 1122 personnel shifted him to the Trauma Centre where the doctors confirmed his death and conducted autopsy, police and rescue sources said.

According to police records, the slain lawyer who hailed from village Chohar Sharif, was one of the nominated accused in the murder case of a police constable. The official said that on February 15, 2024 unidentified attackers had gunned down Sher Azam, a police constable of Chohar Sharif village.

Retired chairman services tribunal KP Ahmed Sultan Tareen, who passed away after suffering cardiac arrest on January 10, 2025, his brother Nasrullah Khan, two nephews Inyat Ullah Khan Advocate, Allah Yar Khan Advocate, and four other people were charged in the FIR but they obtained bail from Peshawar High Court. The murder case of the police constable was under trial in a local court.

Meanwhile, the District Bar Association Haripur has condemned the murder and announced a strike for Monday.
