ISLAMABAD: England defended a low 211 total against Pakistan in the Under-19 World Cup as greenshirts lost the opening match at Harare on Friday by 37 runs..

Bowlers did well to restrict England to 210. However, it was Pakistan’s batting that let the team down, with only captain Farhan Yousaf (65) coming up good. Once he departed, the chances of a fight back were gone with him.

Pakistan eventually were bowled out for 173 in the 47th overs. Alex Greens (2-21), mowed the top order, even getting the prize wicket of Sameer Minhas (10) and Mohammad Shayan (7). Huzaifa Ahsan (17) who perished on full toss from Albert (2-23) stayed for a brief period. James Minto (2-23) also bowled well for England.

Momin Qamar (18 not out) was left stranded when Ali Raza (1) unnecessarily ran himself out. Earlier, Ahmad Hussain (3-38) and Abdul Subhan (2-24) turned out to be picks of bowlers as England were bowled 210.

Calab Folconer (66), Ben Dawkins (33), Albert (25) played well for England. England lost their last six wickets for just 40 runs. Ali Raza and Momin Qamar also picked up two wickets each.
